Curriculum

Dental Technology meets the demands for modern solutions in the design of prostheses, orthodontic appliances and implants. Development of society, prolonging life expectancy and increasing quality of life is made possible by scientific and technical progress. Thanks to increased social awareness of the possibilities of modern medicine and engineering, the demand for implants and the use of prostheses is increasing.

Designers of prostheses, orthodontic appliances and implants are required to have knowledge covering the basics of medicine, dentistry, materials engineering, mechanics and other related scientific fields. The level of complexity of these constructions means that highly qualified staff with broad skills beyond the areas of dentistry and materials engineering are needed.

The Dental Technology studies aim at preparing graduates who can meet these challenges.

In the course of the study, the student will become familiar with medical and engineering basics of prosthetic and orthodontic techniques and principles of their design, execution and repair. The student will not only learn the basic issues of biomechanics in dental technologies, implantology, physiotherapy of the stomatognathic system and dental prophylaxis, but also the basics of social sciences, law, economics and management.

Gaining professional problem-solving skills will enable graduates to work in healthcare institutions or run their own technical-dental practice.

Students complete 320 hours during the three-year full-time and part-time Undergraduate (BSc) Studies.

The practical placement is an integral part of the training and education of future Bachelors of Dental Technology. It allows them to confront theoretical knowledge acquired in lectures and the practical knowledge acquired in practical classes with practice, complementing the knowledge and skills in dental techniques mastered at the College with the skills acquired under natural conditions of professional work in dental offices.

Practical placement takes place at public and private technical and dental offices, equipped with modern dental equipment.

A Dental Technology graduate:

  • Has technical, manual and motor skills in the field of drawing, modelling and making all types of dentures and orthodontic appliances.
  • Is able to select and use devices and instruments according to the task to be carried out in individual laboratories of the prosthetics lab as well as to use modern technologies and equipment.
  • Is able to determine patient's needs for the planned prosthetic restorations.
  • Is able to identify and analyse causes of damage to dentures and orthodontic appliances and consult them with the patient.
  • Is able to assess the quality of workmanship, identify and analyse errors in the construction of dental prostheses and orthodontic appliances.
  • Is able to analyse prosthetic substrate structures for the feasibility of dental prostheses.
  • Is able to prepare dentures, orthodontic appliances, therapeutic splints, post-operative prostheses and epitheses according to clinical design, based on obtained impressions.
  • Is able to prepare restorations and repairs to all types of dentures and orthodontic appliances.
  • Possesses linguistic skills in the fields and disciplines of science appropriate to the studied field of Dental Technology, in accordance with the requirements specified for level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
